Subject: phish review

Dan, I noticed that there is no review posted for 11/24/95 Pittsburg Civic
Arena so here goes.

The Venue: Pittsburg Civic arena is a huge place right smack in the
middle of downtown pittsburg. It looked kind of like a mound even though
they didn't play that tune like we had guessed. The parking lot scene was
pretty happenin' considering the freezing cold weather. There were alot
of
shadey looking people looming around, mostly drug dealers from the
downtown
area who were kind of pushy and obviously not there to see phish. Parking
lot security was kind of hard on the vendors which was kind of shitty.
Other
than that, everything was pretty cool there.
The Show: We had pretty good seats to the show which was very
exciting.
O.K.P. was the opener, alot of energy and a fun song to dance to.
Directly
following that tune was AC/DC Bag, a pretty standard version, but still a
cool tune. Curtain was next, which I loved. Awesome song, the whole band
came together well and Trey sounded very crisp. Stash was next and it was
very well played. Good sounding harmony and once again Trey was right on
top
of things. Tela followed, a beautiful song with excellent harmony. Blue
and
Lonesome next, in which Mike unloaded on us. Really good and the crowd
was
going crazy. I don't know what the attendance was but it was alot for
sure
and the cheer after this one was huge. Maze followed which brought the
energy level up another 20 notches. Fun song. Suzy G. to close the set
which nearly drained everything that I had out of me. Good closing song
and
a very tiring first set from a fans standpoint. Everyone looked worn out
at
the end of this one.
On to set 2. Chalkdust to open a set is a dream come true for me. I
somehow found the energy to dance and it's a good thing that I did because
that tune was awesome. Extended jams, page and trey working well
together.
Theme followed which was a nice change of pace and a good one to relax
to.
Reba next, very pure and structured. Without a whistle it led into
Catapolt. Very nice Reba. Good song to showcase the whole band. SOAM
followed which was very intense. Trey and Page seemed to battle each
other
for who could take over the song. Trey would jam for a while and then he
would stop and watch Page jam for a while. Lots o' fun. Bathtub Gin
followed which was one of the many highlights of this show for me. Great
intro to the song. Thanks Page. Acoustic Army was next, time to relax
for a
few seconds until they stop with that and play HYHY>Bike>HYHU. Only Bike
of
the whole tour and Fish put his all into this one. Incredible vaccum jam
and
an excellent version by Fish himself. I love Fish songs and this one was
definately no exception. Fee followed in which Trey flubbed the words
slightly. Average tune, Julius to close the show was good as well but
also
average. The encore was a great follow up to this outstanding show. Life
on
Mars, first time I'd ever heard this one. Very good harmony. I really
like
this song. You could tell not many people knew it because of the dead
silence in the arena. Rocky Top followed which is yet another high energy
song that made me really not want to leave the place. As I drug myself
out
of the Civ I had thoughts for a long time about the quality of this show,
one
I'll never forget! Happy phishin' Kevin Borst Any comments about the
show?
